The Singapore Contractors Association Limited (SCAL), founded by contractors, has played a crucial role in being the voice of the construction industry since 1937. Over the years, SCAL has built an extensive network of entrepreneurs, industry leaders and related business partners to better serve the entrepreneur community over the long term. SCAL has established four (4) subsidiaries to better serve the building community. Introduction: · Contract management includes activities to meet the requirements of a contract, from the award of the contract to the completion of the work and including the subsequent performance of the contract. · Good contract management by contractors ensures that their rights and obligations are properly documented and recorded and that they are operational as needed. ·. What began in 1937 in a modest shop in Chinatown is now the voice of Singapore`s construction industry.

Singapore Contractors Association Limited (SCAL), formerly known as the Singapore Chinese Contractors Association, was founded in 1937 with the aim of establishing harmonious business relationships between local contractors and ensuring a steady supply of building materials and liaising with the British Master Builders Association. After World War 2, the association changed its name to the Singapore Contractors Association to reflect Singapore`s multiracial community and the growing number of multi-ethnic members of the association. Major General Lim Bo Seng, a successful brick maker and entrepreneur, brought all the members together into a unified body to protect their common interests. In 1977, the Singapore Building Contractors Society merged with the Singapore Contractors Association and the Singapore Contractors Association Ltd (SCAL) was born. This merger brought together all of Singapore`s entrepreneurs to give the industry a strong voice and recognition. Thanks to the rapid growth of its business, SCAL moved to its own premises, Construction House, in 1984. As the only national voice in the country to represent contractors for bungalows, terraces, semi-detached houses and micro-construction projects, the association wants to advance the industry. Located at Bukit Merah Lane 2 in their own aptly named Construction House, the vitality and entrepreneurial spirit of the association and its members should not be underestimated. The association is well represented in many political decision-making bodies of professional associations as well as in government-appointed bodies. Regular dialogues with departments on relevant industry topics are also dynamic and well documented. The Singapore Contractors Association is affiliated with various regional and international bodies whose objectives are shared, namely the promotion of community and cooperation among contractors, the facilitation of the exchange of technology and information, and the development and strengthening of relations between governments and member countries. These organizations include the International Federation of Entrepreneurs` Associations of Asia and the Western Pacific (IFAWPCA) and the ASEAN Federation of Builders (ACF). The work done by the association`s members accounts for more than 75% of the industry`s projects in Singapore alone. These projects include subdivisions, high-tech factories, commercial buildings, MRT stations, ports, tunnels, construction, drainage and sewer works, etc. Members are not only active locally, but also diligently carry out projects abroad and successfully export their expertise and services to China, India, the Middle East, Vietnam, Myanmar, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, West Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Brunei and Sarawak. The Board of Directors, composed of professionals with experience in this field, is ready to lead the association in positioning its members in order to compete effectively both in the local market and on the international scene.

When planning for the future, SCAL will continue to keep abreast of technical developments, monitor market changes, and engage in dialogue with departments to give its members the confidence and support to lead the next cycle and overcome the next hurdle. .
