Employees must complete this leave within 60 days of receiving their child`s obituary of death. If more than one child dies in a 12-month period, employers must allow employees to take unpaid bereavement leave for children during the 12-month period up to a total of six weeks. These provisions do not give employees the right to take leave without pay that exceeds or is in addition to the amount of leave without pay authorized by the federal Family and Sick Leave Act. long-term health problems for caring for or connecting with a family member with a serious medical condition or for caring for or connecting with a new child, and for reasons related to a family member`s military service.
